ASCE 60 rail dimensions

The 60 lb rail is typically used for light cargo lines or light rail transit systems, and can also be applied to low-traffic railway lines. It is manufactured in accordance with the American ASCE standard ASTM A1 and is mainly used in North America. Also known as 60‑pound rail, it has a weight of 60 pounds per yard, equivalent to 29.8 kg/m.

GNEE RAIL supplies light rail profiles ranging from 12 lb/yd (6.0 kg/m) to 90 lb/yd (44.6 kg/m), with stock lengths of 6–12 meters. Custom lengths are also available upon customer request. In addition to 60 lb rail, we offer other American standard rails including 100 lb/yd, as well as heavy‑duty rails and crane rails such as 115 lb rail and 136 lb rail.

ASCE 60 Rail Dimensions Chart

The rail height and base width being equal (107.95 mm) is a defining characteristic of ASCE 60 rail. This 1:1 ratio enhances lateral stability and reduces the risk of overturning under dynamic loads.

The relatively wide head (60.33 mm) increases the contact area between wheel and rail, improving wear resistance and extending service life. Meanwhile, the web thickness (10.72 mm) provides sufficient strength to resist bending stresses without adding excessive weight.
